Team Ukraine have been crowned champions of the WESG 2017 Europe & CIS Regional Finals after defeating GODSENT 2-1 (10-16 on Mirage, 16-12 on Overpass, 16-10 on Inferno).
Ukraine, who had beaten fnatic in the semi-final, started things off as Terrorists on Mirage, securing a quick 3-0 lead in part thanks to a triple-kill from Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk in the pistol round. GODSENT would not let them take control of their own map pick, however, and immediately put up a strong defence to win seven straight rounds.
It was only then that Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko's men managed to get back to the game with a successful A execution, which sparked a great run from the Ukrainians, who brought the deficit to a minimum before half-time. The Ukrainians would then get back to the lead after winning the second pistol and following that up with the subsequent anti-eco.
However, a triple-kill from Hampus "hampus" Poser with a Deagle, which Simon "twist" Eliasson followed up with a 1v2 clutch, was the calayst for a great run from the Swedes, who picked up a 13-9 lead. Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev then came up huge with an AWP quad-kill to give his team a lifeline but the Swedes continued to play their A-game to close out the first map, 16-10.
The beginning of Overpass, Ukraine's map pick, was a back-and-forth affair as both teams traded rounds after GODSENT had secured the pistol. In the fourth round, however, Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev and co. had money to work with, and that was the start of a great T-side from them as they closed out the half with a 10-5 lead.
Now playing as Terrorists, the Swedish squad picked up their second pistol of the map with a triple-kill from Joakim "disco doplan" Gidetun. And even though Ukraine won the subsequent force-buy, they were helpless to counter GODSENT for three straight rounds.
Still, a four-round streak from the Ukrainian side got them to map-point, and it would not take them long to lock down the map, 16-12.
The decider map, Inferno, began with GODSENT getting off to a flying start on the T-side after winning their third pistol of the series. In the sixth round, Ukraine got their first round on the board, and they would not stop racking up rounds before equalising the score.
GODSENT then retook the lead, but they would not be able to follow that up, with Zeus's team then winning the final four rounds of the half to scure a 9-6 advantage.
Thanks to a triple-kill from disco doplan, which included a 1v1 clutch, GODSENT secured yet another pistol round, setting themselves up for a 10-9 lead. With a shoddy buy win, however, Ukraine levelled up the score, and they kept pressing on, eventually taking the map, 16-11, and the series.
